Just Get Started

New or recent to Prepping? It's been on your mind but no action yet?

OK, even if you aren’t new to prepping, this could be helpful to you.

So, unless you have been living under a large rock for the past year, you most likely have had at least a thought about preparing for tough times. Say an extended lockdown, civil unrest, widespread power outage, martial law in your area, travel restrictions or even a natural event like a snowstorm that leaves you in the dark and unable to get out and about for days.

Just get started

It’s never too late to start prepping. And it really does not take as long as you may think to get a nice little start. Here is what I would start doing now and would not break your back account:

When you are grocery shopping, pick up one or two extra non perishable items, like canned goods, rice, honey, sugar, flour, candy, peanut butter, anything that has a long shelf life that you will actually eat even if there was not an emergency. This is how I started out. Every trip, I just grabbed an extra can of beans, meat or potatoes and put them in my prep pantry. You will be surprised how quickly that prep pantry starts to fill up!

One of my favorite places to prep is Aldi. If you have an Aldi near you, use them for this! You can get Aldi brand canned foods for less than a dollar. They also have a section where you can score some random items for things like gardening, tools, flashlights, gloves and more for a very good price. Costco and Walmart also have some pretty good deals as well. And don’t forget Goodwill or other thrift stores for random things, especially house wares, tools and accessories.

Simple preps on a budget

OK here are some other simple items I would pick up as you start prepping. Again, you can pick these up gradually: Candles, a good flashlight, extra batteries, gloves, scissors (this is a very underrated prep item and a must), clothes pins, matches, lighters, basic first aid kit, spices, soap, hand sanitizer, basic cleaning products, bleach, vinegar.

Manual can opener.  Get several of them.

So just a few items to get you started. There are many more and I will go into other aspects of prepping. Please stay tuned.
